Biography

Dr. Yiin Chung Loong received his BEng(Hons) in Chemical Engineering from the Department of Chemical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), Malaysia in 2013. He received his MSc and Ph.D. from the same institution in 2016 and 2019. Dr. Yiin is employed as a research officer during his part time doctoral study, working on the research area of biomass conversion to biochemical and value added materials at Biomass Processing Cluster under Centre for Biofuel and Biochemical Research (CBBR) in UTP. His active involvement in this research group does not limit him to produce research publications but also involves his participation in developing a research product from concept to commercialization stage. As the results, he managed to file 2 patents (PI 2015701598 & PI 2017701656) co-jointly with UTP for his works. Upon graduation, Dr. Yiin joined the School of Chemical Engineering & Science, Swinburne University of Technology (Sarawak Campus) (SUTS) as a Lecturer from May 2019 to January 2020. Dr. Yiin is presently working as a lecturer at Department of Chemical Engineering and Energy Sustainability at Faculty of Engineering in Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS). His research interests include microwave technologies, green solvents, oil palm biomass pretreatment, conversion of cellulose & lignin into value-added products and life cycle assessment (LCA), whereby he published 11 journals, 4 proceedings and 2 book chapters. He is one of the co-investigators for Japan-ASEAN Science, Technology and Innovation Platform (JASTIP) JASTIP-Net 2019 Collaborative Research with a title of 'Sustainable Production of High-Quality Bio-Oil from Different Agriculture Wastes in the ASEAN Region through Catalytic Fast Pyrolysis' and Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Bilateral Joint Research Project (Open Partnership) with a title of 'Bio-oil Conversion of Oil Palm-Derived Lignin'.
