Biography

CHARLES BONG HIN JOO PhD is a senior lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS). He obtained his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from Universiti Sains Malaysia with specialization in Urban Drainage Management. His research focuses on sedimentation mitigation in urban drainage system and sediment transport. He is a member of International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR) and an International Scientific Committee member for the 37th IAHR World Congress (IAHR2017). He has published numerous technical papers in ISI indexed journals such as Water Science & Technology, Urban Water Journal and Journal of Hydrology and Hydromechanics. He is also a frequent reviewer for journals such as Water Science & Technology, Urban Water Journal and Water Resources Management. He currently has filed two patents, namely 'System for Discharging Sediment Deposited in Storm Drain (Application No: PI2018702221)' and ‘Automatic Control System for Flow Regulator Gate in Drainage System (Application No: PI2019005184)' as well as holding a few copyrights. He is actively involved in technology and innovation expo and his innovation products has won Gold Award in Malaysia Technology Expo (MTE2020) and Special Award in Pecipta’19. His book titled “Sediment in Open Storm Sewer and Its Removal” was awarded the Anugerah Buku Negara 2016 (Kategori Pengajian Tinggi: Buku Sains dan Teknologi Terbaik) by Yayasan Pembangunan Buku Negara.
