Biography

Dr. Kueh is Associate Professor in structural engineering at the Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS). He received his B. Eng in Civil Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. His Ph.D. was conducted under the supervision of Professor Pellegrino at the Engineering Department of the University of Cambridge. He is currently on the editorial board of the Malaysian Journal of Civil Engineering and is the Section Editor for the Malaysian Journal of Industrial and Applied Mathematics (MATEMATIKA), a publishing arena for all mathematically-motivated works.

Ahmad Kueh believes that mathematics, science, and technology form an undividable enterprise. One cannot simply master one component but not the others as they are the main constituents of the body of knowledge, although the degree of importance of each of them remains to be quantified and recognized.

Therefore, it is customary that the essence of these elements is widely traced in his research subjects, the coverage of which is compulsorily multidisciplinary. His research curiosity falls within but not restricted to mechanics of structures and materials, natural or man-made, specializing in fibers embedded composite materials and gaining great inspiration from the mechanics of biological bodies. His research template encompasses areas ranging from micromechanics, fiber-reinforced composites, lightweight structures, biomechanics, fluid mechanics to the application of numerical approaches such as finite element, finite difference, and meshfree methods. One of his missions is to treat natural beings as a working template for motivation for the betterment and optimized performance of structures and materials.
