DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE

In this era of rapid digital transformation, the convergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) is not merely a technological advancement but a cornerstone of Malaysia's vision for a digitally empowered future. As the Director of the Centre of Competency for AIoT at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas), I am honored to lead an initiative that is poised to drive this vision forward, nurturing the skills and knowledge required to bridge the digital divide and elevate the nation’s standing in the global digital economy.
Our Centre is committed to realizing our vision of becoming a hub of excellence, dedicated to nurturing and promoting human skills in AIoT. We aim to be a catalyst for digital technology development, not only in Sarawak but across Malaysia, ensuring that our communities, students, engineers, and industries are equipped with the tools and understanding necessary to embrace and leverage these transformative technologies.
As we march towards a future where AIoT becomes integral to every aspect of life, it is crucial to foster literacy and awareness among all segments of society. Our mission is clear: to educate, promote, and encourage the adoption of AIoT, ensuring that every individual whether a student, an engineer, or a business leader understands its benefits and is prepared to harness its potential. This mission aligns with the nation’s broader goals of fostering innovation, enhancing productivity, and ensuring inclusive growth.
Our objectives at the Centre reflect our commitment to this mission. We are focused on raising awareness about AIoT's concepts, benefits, and impacts among students, communities, and industries. Through comprehensive training and skill enhancement programs, we are empowering the next generation of technocrats and engineers with the competencies needed in the AIoT domain. Additionally, we serve as a one-stop hub and reference center for industries, researchers, and engineers, providing solutions and exploring AIoT applications for local industries through research and development.
As we look ahead, our efforts at the Centre of Competency for AIoT will continue to be driven by a commitment to excellence, innovation, and collaboration. We understand that the challenges of digital transformation involving not just technological advancements but also the need to address the digital divide that still exists in many parts of our society. By working together with policymakers, industry leaders, and the academic community, we aim to create an ecosystem where AIoT can flourish, bringing about tangible improvements in the quality of life for all Malaysians.
The future is digital, and at the Centre of Competency for AIoT, we are proud to play a vital role in shaping that future. I warmly invite you to be a part of this exciting journey, as we work together to position Sarawak and indeed all of Malaysia at the forefront of the AIoT revolution.
