PhD/Master Scholarships Available (Cardiac Assist Devices Research)

Fields of Research

1. Physiological Control
2. Computational Modeling
3. Signal Processing
4. In‐vitro and In‐vivo Experimental Validation

Salary

RM1700 – RM3000, depending on personal qualification.
3 months probation period.

Requirements

1. Engineering/IT/Science Degree with min CGPA 3.3 or equivalent.
2. Able to commit full‐time without any part‐time job.
3. Able to complete given tasks within given period.

Benefits

1. This project is linked with an Australian cardiac company, and features collaboration with hospitals as well as world‐renowned research institutions (Australia, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Japan) in the field of cardiac assist device. Arrangements for training overseas and within industries will be made for successful candidates.
2. Coached By: Academic & cardiac specialists, engineers from Australian cardiac company, as well as researchers and first‐class research students from world‐renowned research institutions and universities.

Joint PhD Program Partially Funded by French Government for Malaysian Candidates

One PhD Position by research is right now available at the Faculty of Engineering, UNIMAS. The position is open until a suitable candidate is accepted. This offer is for Malaysian Candidates.

The thesis work consists of Developing a solid Oxide Fuel Cell Base on Low Temperature Smart Ceramic Conductors.

The candidate would be required to go to Limoges for almost half of the thesis period, his/her stay in Limoges being funded by the French Government. The successful candidate would be awarded a double PhD Degree, one from Université de Limoges and one from UNIMAS.

Workshop on Surface Engineering by Professor Dr Amir Azam Khan

A one day workshop on Surface Engineering was conducted at the Faculty of Engineering on the 28th August 2012. The workshop was organised by the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering for its continuing education programme within the Strategic Planning Framework. It was attended by 15 participants from different departments of the Faculty, including two participants from the Faculty of Resource Science and Technology (FRST). Professor Dr Amir Azam Khan from the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering conducted the workshop which was divided into three sessions. Group discussions and Q&A were carried out within each session. The topics covered during the workshop included Surface Treatment and Surface Coatings, Vapour Deposition Process, Surface Phenomena, Thermal Barrier and Wear Resistant Coatings, Atomic, Molecular and Particulate coatings, Assisted Chemical and Physical Vapour Deposition. A few case studies of Plasma Sprayed coatings were also presented and discussed during the workshop. The workshop was concluded with discussion and comments from the participants about the necessity and the role of Surface Engineering in Industrial and Manufacturing sector of the region.

Talk from Mechanical and Manufacturing Department Industry (By: Dato' Che Mat bin Wan Chik)

On 30th May 2012, a talk session given by the Mechanical and Manufacturing Department's Industry Advisory Panel (IAP) representative, Dato' Che Mat bin Che Wanik, was held at BS6 CTF1 building. This session was aimed towards students especially final year students for them to gain some knowledge and a deeper insight into the mechanical engineering field. Mat is something that they can keep in mind for their future. In this session , Dato Che Mat shared his experience being in the Public Work Department (JKR) especially his contribution in air-conditioning system and mold prevention in a building. He also taught th audience how to manage and control one institution with smart technique. In the middle of the session, there was a Q&A session with the students and they brought up some good questions for Dato' to answer. This session was ended with a small souvenir giving ceremony from UNIMAS to Dato'.

Talk about Practicing as an Engineer and Product Liability (By: Mr. Robert T.E. Wee)

On 22th March 2010, the talk about "Practicing as an Engineer and Product Liability" has been held at TMM Room, Level 1 in Faculty of Engineering UNIMAS. The special speaker Mr. Robert T.E. Wee was invited from Australia. He was born in Kuching and was working as Engineer at Mitsubishi Motors Australia for about 16 years. Currently he has his own Engineering Practice in Australia.
