About IEM-SAFE UNIMAS Student Section

The IEM-SAFE UNIMAS Student-Section is one of the registered organizations in UNIMAS that focuses on professional networking with IEM Malaysia. Besides, the IEM-SAFE UNIMAS Student Section promotes engineering-related issues through a variety of mediums, including youth-centric events, informative talks/exhibitions, and other activities that boost engineering leadership abilities.

The IEM-SAFE UNIMAS Student Section was established in 2010. Mdm. Kasumawati Binti Lias and Mr Aidil Azli Bin Alias (2010–2013) were the first IEM-SAFE UNIMAS Student Section advisors. Dr. Shafrida Sahrani (2014–2015) and Mr. Mohd Azrin bin Mohd Said (2016–2019) take over the IEM-SAFE UNIMAS Student Section, respectively. Ir Dr. Kasumawati binti Lias is the current advisor for IEM-SAFE UNIMAS Student Section.

The IEM then signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) on September 13, 2017, which would last for five years. This MoU may be extended for a further period as agreed to in writing by the Parties by the issuing of a written notice from one Party to the other not less than three (3) months prior to the Expiry Date, indicating the intention to renew the period.

The IEM-SAFE UNIMAS Student Section can profit from this MoU by receiving funding for membership drives (RM500), IEM Education Fund (RM1000), and a 30% incentive from the membership drives registered fee with specified terms and conditions for the IEM-SAFE UNIMAS Student Section's activities fund. All the funds need to be applied from the IEM by using the standard forms.

IEM-SAFE UNIMAS Student Section currently has won the Outstanding Student Section Awards for the 3 consecutive years from 2019 to 2021. This has shown the excellent achievements of the IEM-SAFE UNIMAS Student Section.

The IEM-SAFE UNIMAS Student Section will always strive for improvement in order to make a significant contribution, not only to the engineering community, but to the entire society, in promoting IEM and STEM Education for a bright future.

IEM-SAFE UNIMAS STUDENT SECTION STORIES

A Day with IEM - 20 November 2021

The event A Day with IEM was conducted to introduce the IEM SAFE Student Section to the first-year students of Faculty of Engineering, University Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS). The program was conducted virtually through online meeting platform, Webex Meeting. Dr Victor Bong Nee Shin, Chairman of IEM Young Engineer Section (YES) Sarawak Branch and Ms Ruhaida binti Daud, Secretariat of the Institution of Engineers, Malaysia, IEM Headquarter (HQ), was invited to provide a talk regarding the BEM, IEM, and the registration process, respectively.  The event also provided a platform for the IEM SAFE Student Section 2021/2022 to introduce themselves to the new students of Faculty of Engineering. More than 400 participants have attended the session, while 392 students have submitted the registration form to IEM.

A Day with IEM - 28 November 2020

This event was organized to introduce first year students, Faculty of Engineering to IEM, IEM Young Engineer Section (YES) and IEM-SAFE UNIMAS Student Section. Then, the event also implemented to assist for IEM student registration process. 436 students were attended and registered with IEM student chapter.

IEM-SAFE Edutainment Fair

IEM Edutainment Fair was a program to promote and introduce IEM-SAFE UNIMAS Student Section to all UNIMAS’s students.  It was conducted on 2 6th November 2020 to 4th December 2020. All the program activities were implemented through online platform to ensure the physical distancing was complied. Various activities have been carried out, such as:

Engineering Week 2021 is a program organized by IEM-SAFE UNIMAS Student Section annually. This program was organized from 22 Mac – 24 April 2021. Theme for 2021 Engineering Week is “Engineering Ingenuity towards IR4.0”. All the events conducted during Engineering Week 2021 are:

The Time for Engineer is Now (9th June 2021)

The event consists of two sub-events which are Professional Engineer Talk and Industrial Revolution 4.0 Talk. Both talk represents IR. For IR in Professional Engineer Talk represents Ingeniur (Ir) while in Industrial Revolution it represents Industry 4.0. Industrial Revolution 4.0 aimed to let the students know how the IR 4.0 affected our life and how important it is especially to engineering Students while Professional Engineer Talk is aimed to help the students to gain the knowledge from the Professional Engineers in this event. Through this event, the students can get some tips and also some advices to be a competent engineer in the future.

National Summit 2021 (5 – 7 August 2021)

The National Summit is an annual grand event that gathers all Malaysian engineers and engineering students to discuss issues related engineering career, professional development, education, technical site visit, technical information exchange and networking activities.

And in this year 2021, National Summit was conducted online. This was the first ever virtual National Summit in Malaysia. IEM (Southern Branch) Young Engineers Section (IEMSB-YES) was selected as the host for this year National Summit 2021.

5 students from IEM-SAFE UNIMAS Student Section has been participated in this National Summit 2021 and all the registration fees were sponsored by IEM G&S YES Sarawak Branch.

IEM-SAFE Annual General Meeting

IEM-SAFE Annual General Meeting was an annual program that serves as the first official meeting for IEM-SAFE UNIMAS Student Section. This event was a platform for IEM-SAFE UNIMAS student section to present the past activities that have been held last session and annual budget report to students and staff of Faculty of Engineering. Other than that, the new IEM-SAFE Elite magazine, IEM-SAFE Guidebook and the new logo for IEM-SAFE UNIMAS was laucnhed. Finally, the event was a platform to introduce the new committee members of the student section.
